From a notice in the Baltimore Sun dated June 22, 1922:

Gamble Latrobe, for many years, general agent and superintendent of the Pennsylvania Railroad here and a Baltimorean by birth, died yesterday at Atlantic City. Death was due to uremic poisoning.
Broken in health as a result of years of hard work and overtaxing his strength during the war, Mr. Latrobe went to Atlantic City early in March. He was suffering from a combination of heart and kidney trouble. For a time he showed improvement and last Friday was seen on the boardwalk.
The next day, however, he was stricken with acute uremia and steadily grew worse. His end was expected, Mrs. Latrobe and one son, Gamble Latrobe, Jr. were at his bedside constantly. Charles Latrobe, another son, was in Buffalo and hastened to Atlantic City, but arrived too late.
The body will be shipped today to Wilmington, Del. where funeral services will be held. Burial will be made at Upland, Pa.
At the time of his death Mr. Latrobe was general superintendent of the southern division of the Pennsylvania Railroad, having been appointed to this position, after he was transferred from his post here in May 1916.
Born in this city in 1866, Mr. Latrobe was a son of the late Charles H. Latrobe, who for many years was engineer of the Park Board and who built the Charles Street and St. Paul Street bridges over Jones Falls. His grandfather was Benjamin H. Latrobe, engineer-in-chief of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad for a long period. His mother was a Miss Gamble, member of a prominent Maryland family.
Mr. Latrobe's education was received at St. James School then St. James College in Hagerstown. Charles H. Carter, who afterward came into close contact with him as one of the counsel of the Pennsylvania Railroad, was one of his classmates.
Mr. Latrobe was with the Pennsylvania system continuously for 33 years, starting on October 1, 1889, in the office of the engineer of maintenance-of-way at Altoona, advancing to the position of assistant supervisor, supervisor, assistant engineer, acting general agent and superintendent at Baltimore, and was made general agent and superintendent at Baltimore on November 11, 1908. He was the last to hold this title, his successors having been designated simply as superintendent.
During his connection with the Pennsylvania, and particularly while he was general agent, Mr. Latrobe was a staunch friend of Baltimore, always using his influence to urge the railroad company to improve facilities. He was largely instrumental in the improvement of Union Station a few years ago, and aided in the preparation of the plans for the proposed improvements in and around Calvert Station, which were held up because the city authorities insisted that electricity be the motive power of the locomotives at the completed terminal. When he was transferred to his last position, he tried to have the Pennsylvania company establish his headquarters at Baltimore instead of Wilmington.
