- David Ligon moved to Courtland, AL in 1823, practiced law, and was a Christian (Campbellite) minister. He was elected to the Alabama legislature in 1825, was elected chancellor of the Northern division of Alabama in 1845, ran for Congress in 1849, was elected associate judge of the Supreme Court of Alabama 1851-53, and was elected a trustee of the University of Alabama in 1854.
