    Notes 
    • William DuVal was a member of one of the independent volunteer companies which marched with Patrick Henry to take possession of the gunpowder in the magazine at Williamsburg at the beginning of the revolutionary War. In June 1775 he served about two months as lieutenant of an independent company from Henrico Co., VA, but then raised a company of minute men which he commanded a Hampton, VA from the fall of 1775 until spring 1776. In Jan 1781 he again entered service from Hanover County during Arnold's invasion of Virginia. He was a member of the House of Delegates from Louisa County, 1782, and from Richmond, 1804-05. He was an attorney and served as mayor of Richmond, 1805-06.
