    • Robert Jefferson Breckinridge, Jr. attended Centre College and the University of Virginia. He was a lawyer in Danville and Lexington, Kentucky. He was a Captain, in the Kentucky State Guard, 11 May 1861, and a Captain, Company B, Second Kentucky, 5 Jul 1861. He was a Delegate to the Kentucky secession convention, and a Confederate Congressman, 1862-1863. He was commissioned Colonel of cavalry 13 Sep 1864, for a term of three months, in order to recruit behind Union lines in Kentucky. He became a Prisoner of War (POW) when he was captured in Woodford County, Kentucky, 22 Feb 1865. He was then held at Johnston's Island prisoner-of-war camp and released 22 May 1865. After the Civil War he was a lawyer and judge in Lincoln County, Kentucky, New York City, and Danville, Kentucky. Robert was born in Kentucky according to the 1850 Census.
