    • Clement Comer Clay graduated from East Tennessee Univ. in 1807 and was a private and then adjutant of a battalion in the Creek War, 1813. He was a member of the Alabama legislature, 1817-19, delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1819, and Chief Justice of Alabama 1820-23. He was again elected to the Alabama legislature in 1827 and was Speaker of the lower house in 1828, and was a member of Congress, 1829-35. He was Governor of Alabama, 1835-37, and a U.S. Senator, 1837-41.
