Wow! It's been almost a whole year since I posted any articles to my site. But that doesn't mean I haven't been busy with genealogy. I have been hard at work adding Google Maps to my online data. Family Tree Maker 2010/2011 has a nice mapping feature which gives you a visual representation for all those crazy place names. But getting those maps to show in my online tree proved to be quite a hassle.

FTM and Gedcoms, part 2. PDF Print E-mail

Well, I tried to import a Family Tree Maker 2010 Gedcom into my online data and ran into a few snags. This was to be expected. Before exporting I tried deleting a person and adding someone else. With FTM 16, deleting a person left an empty record which caused all the higher records to shift up when a Gedcom was created. Luckily, adding a person filled in that empty record which prevented this shift and unwanted renumbering.

To start things off, I'm currently at 19967 people in my tree. I haven't done much (of anything) on this site in the last 6 months, but I've still been adding names to the genealogy. A thank you goes out to everyone who's been contacting me with changes and updates.

Speaking of changes, I just upgraded to Windows 7, and it's not going to have any of the problems Vista had.

"At the conclusion of the evidence in the case, while the lawyers were preparing the instructions, P. B. Thompson, Jr., and Larue Daviess started towards the court house door, and in a moment the firing commenced, by which party, it was not known; thirty or forty shots were fired. Theodore Daviess, Sr., and his son Larue, were instantly killed and Theodore Daviess, Jr., was mortally wounded. P. B. Thompson, Sr., and P. B. and J. B. Thompson, Jr., were wounded, but none of them fatally."

Excerpt from L. F. Johnson. Famous Kentucky Tragedies and Trials. Louisville: Baldwin, 1916. 191-204.
