  • Notes
    • John Frederic Latrobe was a landowner and composer. He was the founder of the Livonian branch
of the Latrobe family. He left the Moravian Church and the pedagogium at Niesky and took up the study of medicine at Jena in the early 1790's. He settled in Livonia as a physician in 1794. John Frederick became an officer in the Livonian 'Landmiliz' in 1807, and as a result he was was rewarded with Russian knighthood as an Officer of the military during the Napoleonic War.

John Frederic had rented the estate of "Woiseck" until 1830; then he moved to Dorpat (Tartu) with all his family. "Woiseck" was an estate in the parish of Klein St. Johannis, near Oberpahlen (Pöltsaama) in Livonia. After the First World War in about 1919 Livonia was divided. The north (and therefore Woiseck too) was in Estonia. The southern part was then part of Latvia. In 1989 Renate and John Henry de La Trobe took a trip through Estonia and visited "Woiseck". Today it is a hospital for psychological diseases.

It is unclear when John Frederic began using the two-word spelling of La Trobe, however, all of his descendants use it.
